Job summary

DNREC is seeking engineers to implement state and federal environmental regulations, reviewing water and wastewater permit applications, monitoring data, and designing treatment systems to ensure compliance.

The position involves preparing calculations, data modeling, permits, letters, and testimony to support permitting and enforcement actions, plus reviewing construction plans and coordinating with municipalities.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Civil, Chemical and Environmental Engineering OR passing the FE examination in the assigned discipline.
  • At least four years experience in Civil, Chemical and Environmental Engineering.
  • Knowledge of engineering project management including planning, scheduling, staffing, coordinating, controlling, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on project status.

Responsibilities

  • Drafts, develops and modifies engineering designs, plans and specifications.
  • Reviews permit applications, blueprints and designs for compliance with specifications and regulations.
  • Applies science and math to research and develop technical solutions.
  • Plans and conducts field studies, surveys and investigations to collect data.
  • Tests or evaluates materials and equipment.
  • Plans and coordinates engineering projects.
  • Reviews and reports on project status and conformance.
  • Develops cost estimates for time and materials.
  • Provides technical guidance and training to staff.
