Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a technical SME for battery energy storage systems to lead evaluations and ensure design integrity throughout the project lifecycle. You will size systems, perform calculations, review vendor submissions, and drive risk management while coordinating with cross-functional teams.

This role requires 4+ years in electrical/power engineering with energy storage exposure; PE/EIT credentials are preferred; U.S. work authorization is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Engineer III: 4+ years of relevant electrical and/or power engineering experience; Energy Storage preferred.
  • Engineer IV: 7+ years of relevant electrical and/or power engineering experience with significant Energy Storage project exposure.
  • Ability to independently lead technical reviews and drive issue resolution across multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead program-level standards, equipment strategies, and cross-functional technical decision-making.
  • Experience supporting pursuits, design development, construction issue resolution, and commissioning/turnover for critical power systems.
  • EIT or PE license preferred; PE license preferred for Engineer IV.
  • Must be currently legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship for employment visa status

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert for battery energy storage systems throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead technical evaluations and due diligence for battery storage technologies, systems, equipment, and vendors.
  • Perform feasibility assessments, technology comparisons, preliminary system sizing, engineering calculations, and technical risk identification.
  • Develop and maintain technical equipment specifications for energy storage projects.
  • Support Supply Chain with vendor qualification, equipment standardization, bid evaluations, technical clarifications, and supplier selection.
  • Identify and resolve technical risks, design gaps, equipment interface issues, and constructability concerns.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including RFI responses, field-change reviews, vendor coordination, and technical issue resolution.
  • Review vendor proposals, equipment submittals, drawings, calculations, technical data sheets, and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure systems comply with applicable codes, standards, utility requirements, and safety practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement and standardization across the energy storage portfolio

Job description
