Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Field Service Engineer to perform field service activities on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and related equipment from installation through warranty and long-term O&M. You will own site availability, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, and support troubleshooting and software/firmware upgrades.

Candidate will document work in service tools, support after-hours on-call rotation, and travel up to 50% to remote sites.

Job description

Perform field service activities on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and associated equipment from installation/commissioning through warranty and long-term O&M support
Own availability and service-level commitments for assigned sites during service activities
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on BESS and ancillary equipment
Support troubleshooting, repairs, component replacement, system restoration, software upgrades, firmware upgrades, and routine system checks
Document work performed, observations, and findings in service tools/work orders
Support service readiness activities for sites transitioning into long-term O&M
Provide remote technical support and basic troubleshooting using phone, Teams, WebEx, or similar tools
Support customer and contractor education on equipment operation, response expectations, and routine maintenance
Participate in after-hours on-call support on a rotation basis
Use CMMS and digital service platforms to complete work orders, track issues, and document service activities
Contribute field observations and lessons learned to procedures, troubleshooting guides, and training materials
Support root-cause investigations by collecting data, logs, and observations
Support product return and technical support processes
Collaborate with Senior FSEs, Service Engineering, site teams, subcontractors, authorized service providers, and customers
Execute work in compliance with company safety policies and applicable standards, including LOTO, JHA/JSA, energized work controls, NFPA 70E, and OSHA
Report hazards, near misses, safety concerns, and improvement opportunities

Requirements

B.S. in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical experience
2-5 years of relevant experience in electrical, power, renewable energy EPC, or O&M environments
Fundamental knowledge of electrical testing and measurement equipment
Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills; ability to read and interpret schematics and drawings
Experience supporting hardware and software troubleshooting activities
Ability to communicate clearly with customers and internal teams
Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking fundamentals
Exposure to energy storage systems, power conversion systems, or related electrical equipment
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
Willingness to travel up to 50%
Flexibility with working off-hours and being part of the off-hours, on-call rotation
Ability to lift and carry material
Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing/able to drive and fly to remote sites as needed
Experience with BESS, PCS, EMS, or renewable energy systems
Familiarity with CAN, Modbus, TCP/IP, and DNP3 communications protocols, including alarm/event analysis and firmware interactions
Experience using CMMS platforms such as SAP, Maximo, ServiceNow, or Salesforce
Knowledge of power generation, transmission, or distribution systems
Structured problem-solving or Lean experience
