Job Description

As an ALSAC Cloud Data Engineer III, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable data processing software, data modeling, pipelines, transformations, databases, and supporting cloud infrastructure to solve unique and complex business problems. Leveraging the latest AWS cloud technologies and supporting tools, you will drive the development of data engineering solutions, optimize big data pipelines, and ensure security, compliance, and operational efficiency. This role involves collaborating with ALSAC leadership, Data & Analytics teams, Information Technology (IT) Architecture teams, and other stakeholders to create a cloud-native data infrastructure that enhances business value, accelerates time-to-insight, and supports donor acquisition and operational excellence.

You will act as a strategic contributor to the Business Intelligence (BI) Cloud Platform team, providing mentorship to junior engineers (DE I and DE II), recommending reference architectures, and promoting best practices in data lifecycle management, information security, data privacy, and cloud migration strategies. This position requires a balance of hands-on technical expertise, analytical problem-solving, and the ability to distill complex technical concepts for diverse audiences, including business partners with varying levels of technical understanding.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Data Infrastructure Development: Develop and maintain data processing software, dimensional data modeling, big data pipelines, transformations, and related databases using AWS services (e.g., Redshift, S3, Glue, Athena, Lambda) and complementary tools and languages (e.g., Kafka, Spark, Airflow, Python, dbt, CData).
  2. Cloud Architecture Design: Lead the design and development of cloud-native architectures, promoting the adoption of AWS services (e.g., RDS, EMR, EC2, DMS) and hybrid strategies for on-premise-to-cloud migrations, including phased cutovers and parallel environments. Experience with migration from Microsoft SQL Server to AWS is preferred.
  3. Strategic Consultation: Provide guidance to Data & Analytics teams, Data Science teams, IT leadership, and business partners on cloud architecture benefits, data protection, scalability, and infrastructure needs. Collaborate closely with Data Governance frameworks.
  4. Data Optimization & Analytics: Build and optimize large datasets and pipelines to support analytics, data science, and performance metrics. Perform root cause analysis to identify improvement opportunities and focus on quality engineering.
  5. Mentorship & Leadership: Mentor Data Engineer I and II, sharing knowledge on data platforms, SOPs, and best practices.
  6. DevSecOps Implementation: Advise on automation, testing, quality assurance, compliance, and data protection for cloud, hybrid, and on-premise workloads.
  7. Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with various teams to resolve technical issues, align strategies, and improve data access for insights.
  8. Risk Mitigation: Identify and mitigate risks related to data strategy, privacy, and sustainability, ensuring compliance with security standards (e.g., IAM, CloudWatch, KMS).
  9. Innovation & Trends: Research emerging technologies and industry trends to support innovation and automation.
  10. Communication: Communicate the value of cloud tools and architectures to diverse audiences, producing recommendations and insights for leadership.
