Job Description

As an ALSAC Cloud Data Engineer III, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable data processing software, data models, pipelines, transformations, databases, and cloud infrastructure to address complex business challenges. Using the latest AWS cloud technologies and tools, you will develop data engineering solutions, optimize big data pipelines, and ensure security, compliance, and operational efficiency. Collaboration with leadership, Data & Analytics teams, IT Architecture, and other stakeholders is essential to create a cloud-native data infrastructure that enhances business value and accelerates insights.

You will serve as a strategic member of the Business Intelligence Cloud Platform team, mentoring junior engineers, recommending architectures, and promoting best practices in data management, security, privacy, and cloud migration. This role requires technical expertise, analytical problem-solving, and the ability to communicate complex concepts effectively to diverse audiences.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Data Infrastructure Development: Develop and maintain data processing software, models, pipelines, and databases using AWS services (e.g., Redshift, S3, Glue, Athena, Lambda) and tools like Kafka, Spark, Airflow, Python, dbt, CData.
  2. Cloud Architecture Design: Lead design of cloud-native architectures, promoting AWS services (e.g., RDS, EMR, EC2, DMS) and hybrid strategies for migrations, including experience with Microsoft SQL Server to AWS migration.
  3. Strategic Consultation: Guide Data & Analytics, Data Science, IT leadership, and business partners on cloud benefits, security, scalability, and infrastructure needs, aligning with Data Governance frameworks.
  4. Data Optimization & Analytics: Build and optimize datasets and pipelines to support analytics, data science, and performance metrics, focusing on quality engineering and root cause analysis.
  5. Mentorship & Leadership: Mentor Data Engineer I and II, sharing knowledge on platforms, SOPs, and best practices.
  6. DevSecOps Implementation: Prototype and advise on automation, testing, quality assurance, and compliance for cloud, hybrid, and on-prem workloads.
  7. Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with various teams to resolve technical issues, align strategies, and improve data access for insights.
  8. Risk Mitigation: Manage risks related to data strategy, privacy, and sustainability, ensuring compliance with AWS security tools.
  9. Innovation & Trends: Research emerging technologies and industry trends to support innovation and automate data tasks.
  10. Communication: Effectively communicate the value of cloud architectures and tools to all audiences, producing reports and insights for leadership.
Job Requirements
  • Proficiency in SQL for development and analysis.
  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing, and pipeline optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS core services (e.g., Redshift, S3, Glue, Lambda).
  • Knowledge of API integration, ETL/ELT processes, and data lake ecosystems.
  • DevOps experience with CI/CD, source control, and deployment techniques.
  • Familiarity with big data tools, databases, and workflow management systems.
  • Understanding stream-processing systems and scripting languages.
  • Leadership in growing cloud engineering practices.
  • Bachelor's Degree + 5-8 years of enterprise architecture experience.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, self-motivated, team-oriented.
  • Experience with dbt, Airflow, CData, SageMaker, SQL Server 2019+, security frameworks.
  • Knowledge of additional AWS services and migration experience.
  • Cost management within AWS.
