OVERVIEW

Develops, recommends, documents, and communicates short-range work plans on cost-effective and reliable expansion, improvement, distribution, transmission, and substation projects. Ensures optimal performance of the electric system and its existing and future ability to efficiently and economically meet load demands.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluates equipment by establishing operating conditions, devising performance tests, setting up and conducting tests, recording and analyzing results, modifying components and parts, and recommending changes.
  • Performs engineering development and design including logic design, circuit design, instrumentation design, firmware development, model formulation, cost projection, computer architecture analysis and design, network structure design, and systems engineering.
  • Directs activities of the Specification Committee to ensure the development and revision of construction specifications and practices.
  • Works continually towards self-development to maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, and participating in professional societies.
  • Acts as a resource to all other departments for technical support and issues concerning the electrical system.
  • Analyzes electrical systems utilizing computer engineering and business databases. Designs alternative plans for an addition and/or improvements to the electrical distribution and transmission system.
  • Analyzes system protection requirements and limitations by preparing reliability, voltage drop, fault current, and coordination studies.
  • Monitor and ensure work plan jobs adhere to schedules for system improvements.
  • Develops construction and material specifications and engineering assembly guidelines for review and approval by NOVEC Construction and Material Specifications Committee.
  • Develop capital budget recommendations for the Short-Range Plan’s system improvement and new facilities projects.
  • Designs extensions and relocations of residential subdivisions, and commercial developments and reviews work order(s) to ensure adherence to work plan, REA specifications, NOVEC policies and guidelines, and determines over current and over voltage protection requirements.
  • Monitors and analyzes the electrical equipment loading, and growth increase (or decrease) of present and new loads.
  • Develops long and short-term load forecasting studies to anticipate changes in loads and load patterns with particular attention to scheduling the proposed system improvements.
  • Develops and maintains engineering and company procedures manuals for use by engineering personnel.
  • Develops load transfer requests as necessary to institute changes to the electrical system and coordinates the activities required to energize new circuits.
  • Works with manufacturers to develop new, cost-effective material items or alter existing items and resolves issues about material applications.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

We're open to hiring this position at multiple career levels. The level, title, and starting compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate's education, relevant experience, certifications, licenses, and overall qualifications.

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field from an accredited institution is required.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in the electric power industry or 8+ years of relevant experience in the electric utility industry and a Professional Engineer license. An advanced degree may be considered equivalent to one year of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field from an accredited institution is required.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in the electric power industry or 5+ years of relevant experience in the electric power industry.An advanced degree may be considered equivalent to one year of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field from an accredited institution is required.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in the electric power industry.An advanced degree may be considered equivalent to one year of relevant experience.
  • NCEES EIT certification is preferred.
