Job summary

American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) is seeking an Engineer I to assist with ship structure, stability and load line reviews. You will perform engineering design review and analysis on major and smaller projects, applying conventional engineering knowledge with increasing independence on broader assignments. The role supports U.S.

government classification and certification services for surface vessels and requires U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil/Structural/Naval Architecture or related discipline; M.S. may be preferred.
  • 0–5 years of related engineering experience in shipbuilding, design/consulting, or classification settings.
  • Experience with stability analyses and generic ship structural rules.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, perform detailed engineering review of ship structural plans and stability analyses for compliance with Rules and contracts.
  • Prepare first-principle calculations or use CAE tools to predict structural integrity of vessels.
  • Perform classical stress calculations, finite element analysis, and fatigue assessment.
  • Utilize FEMAP for model development and NASTRAN solution.
  • Prepare technical reports and collaborate with engineers to resolve issues.
  • Maintain quality, content, and timeliness per ABS standards.
