Job summary

American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) is seeking an Engineer I to assist in modeling, review, and analysis of vessel structures, stability, load line, and hull strength for ships and offshore floating structures. The role supports compliance with ABS Rules and contract commitments under supervision.

The position offers growth through broader technical assignments, including time-sensitive damage assessments and emergency response support as needed.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Civil/Structural/Mechanical Engineering or related; an M.S. may be preferred.
  • 0–5 years of related engineering experience in relevant industries.
  • Experience with vessel stability calculations preferred.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy in engineering software.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed engineering reviews and analyses related to ship structures, stability, load line for compliance with Rules, Regulations, and contract commitments.
  • Develop analysis models and calculations using first principles and CAE tools to predict structural integrity and stability of vessels and offshore structures.
  • Conduct finite element stress, fatigue and stability analyses as assigned.
  • Prepare technically accurate reports and responses for review by senior engineers or managers.
