This entry-level role emphasizes collaboration, quality deliverables, and growing technical proficiency toward Engineer-in-Training licensure. Ideal candidate has a BS in Civil Engineering and 0–2 years of experience, with strong communication and CAD skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Zero to two years of related civil engineering experience.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) registration preferred.
  • Valid driver''s license and ability to travel, including occasional overnight travel.

Responsabilités

Position Overview

Three Notch Group is seeking an Engineer I to support our Civil Practice in delivering accurate, high-quality engineering and design documents that are constructable and aligned with each project’s requirements and critical success factors. Working under the close and immediate supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer, this entry-level role will assist with design computations, plans, reports, specifications, permit documents, quantity estimates, and construction cost estimates for a variety of civil engineering projects.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative and detail-oriented civil engineering professional who communicates effectively, approaches problems thoughtfully, and is eager to build technical proficiency and increasing independence while serving clients and supporting project teams.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist with client communication related to assigned projects and attend client or public meetings, including occasional evening meetings.
  • Use computer-aided engineering and design software to prepare engineering plans, design documents, computations, reports, and quantity estimates.
  • Assist with the preparation and modification of reports, specifications, construction documents, studies, permits, and designs for civil engineering projects.
  • Perform work under the close and immediate supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer, developing increasing technical proficiency and independence.
  • Review construction sites to monitor progress and perform other duties required by the contract documents.
  • Apply project and practice quality-control requirements and take responsibility for the quality and accuracy of assigned work.
  • Define problems, collect and evaluate data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret engineering and construction documents, technical procedures, professional publications, and governmental regulations.
  • Assist with the development of construction cost estimates and support project deliverables within established schedules, direct‑labor budgets, and expense budgets.
  • Communicate proactively with the Project Manager or Practice Leader regarding assignment requirements, schedule milestones, budgets, and project status.
  • Manage time efficiently to complete quality work within project schedules and budgets.
  • Participate in assigned professional development, technical training, certifications, and professional activities, and actively pursue Professional Engineer licensure.
  • Follow company policies and procedures and perform other duties as assigned.
What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means consistently producing accurate, constructable, and well-coordinated engineering deliverables while meeting assigned quality, schedule, and budget expectations. The Engineer I will communicate effectively with project leaders, clients, and team members; apply sound technical judgment; and demonstrate accountability for assigned work. The successful Engineer I will steadily expand proficiency with civil engineering principles, design software, construction documents, and project delivery processes. They will actively pursue professional development and Engineer-in-Training and Professional Engineer licensure while contributing positively to client relationships, teamwork, and the continued growth of the Civil Practice.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Zero to two years of related civil engineering experience.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) registration preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel, including occasional overnight travel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to apply basic algebra, geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, and financial functions to practical situations.
  • Basic proficiency with computer-aided design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and/or OpenRoads preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to interpret engineering and construction documents, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for prolonged periods; see, hear, talk, stand, stoop, bend, walk, read, write, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds or more and work extended hours when needed.
  • Ability to work primarily in an office environment and occasionally at construction sites or in outdoor weather conditions where noise levels may be loud.
