Job summary

Three Notch Group is seeking an Engineer I to support our Civil Practice in delivering accurate, constructable engineering documents under supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer. The role includes design computations, plans, reports, specifications, and cost estimates for a variety of civil projects.

The ideal candidate is collaborative, detail-oriented, and eager to develop technical proficiency while supporting project teams and clients.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Zero to two years of related civil engineering experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel, including occasional overnight travel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to apply basic algebra, geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, and financial functions to practical situations.
  • Basic proficiency with computer-aided design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and/or OpenRoads preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to interpret engineering and construction documents, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for prolonged periods; see, hear, talk, stand, stoop, bend, walk, read, write, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds or more and work extended hours when needed.
  • Ability to work primarily in an office environment and occasionally at construction sites or in outdoor weather conditions where noise levels may be loud.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with client communication related to assigned projects and attend client or public meetings, including occasional evening meetings.
  • Use computer-aided engineering and design software to prepare engineering plans, design documents, computations, reports, and quantity estimates.
  • Assist with the preparation and modification of reports, specifications, construction documents, studies, permits, and designs for civil engineering projects.
  • Perform work under the close and immediate supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer, developing increasing technical proficiency and independence.
  • Review construction sites to monitor progress and perform other duties required by the contract documents.
  • Apply project and practice quality-control requirements and take responsibility for the quality and accuracy of assigned work.
  • Define problems, collect and evaluate data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret engineering and construction documents, technical procedures, professional publications, and governmental regulations.
  • Assist with the development of construction cost estimates and support project deliverables within established schedules, direct-labor budgets, and expense budgets.
  • Communicate proactively with the Project Manager or Practice Leader regarding assignment requirements, schedule milestones, budgets, and project status.
  • Manage time efficiently to complete quality work within project schedules and budgets.
  • Participate in assigned professional development, technical training, certifications, and professional activities, and actively pursue Professional Engineer licensure.
  • Follow company policies and procedures and perform other duties as assigned.

Position Overview

Three Notch Group is seeking an Engineer I to support our Civil Practice in delivering accurate, high-quality engineering and design documents that are constructable and aligned with each project’s requirements and critical success factors. Working under the close and immediate supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer, this entry-level role will assist with design computations, plans, reports, specifications, permit documents, quantity estimates, and construction cost estimates for a variety of civil engineering projects.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative and detail-oriented civil engineering professional who communicates effectively, approaches problems thoughtfully, and is eager to build technical proficiency and increasing independence while serving clients and supporting project teams.

Primary Responsibilities

The successful Engineer I will steadily expand proficiency with civil engineering principles, design software, construction documents, and project delivery processes. They will actively pursue professional development and Engineer-in-Training and Professional Engineer licensure while contributing positively to client relationships, teamwork, and the continued growth of the Civil Practice.
