Job summary

Eversource is seeking a Sr. Grid Modernization Specialist to support electric network modeling tools and DMS/SCADA applications.

You will collaborate with control centers, IT, and engineering teams to optimize the distribution system and advance modernization efforts across the service territory. The role requires a BS in engineering, 3 years of relevant experience, and strong skills in load flow, voltage regulation, and data-driven decision making.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology.
Three (3) years of experience.
Experience in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry preferred.
Thorough understanding of electrical engineering concepts such as load flow, stability, voltage regulation, power factor, losses, load and generation modeling.
Experience modeling electric distribution systems.
Ability to manipulate data from large datasets to provide specific engineering results.
Thorough knowledge of electric distribution operational technologies such as DMS, OMS, GIS, SCADA, EMS, Synergi/Cyme.

Responsibilities

Support execution, implementation, and maintenance of electric network modeling tools (DMS, Synergi Electric).
Assist system operators by optimizing the distribution system using DMS functionality (AFR, LVM, Planned Outage Study, DER/Load Forecasting).
Serve as SME in ADMS, SCADA, DER dispatching, energy storage, microgrids, Volt/Var Optimization, and load shedding.
Collaborate with control centers, IT, and engineering on DMS functionality and enhancements.
Support specification and configuration of DMS advanced applications (FLISR, LVM, AFR, Load/Generation Scheduling).
Develop project approval documentation covering need, scope, technical solutions, risks, budget, and schedule.
Investigate new industry technologies for operations benefits.
Develop tools to process data from multiple sources for engineering models.

Serve as a subject matter expert in ADMS, SCADA, DER dispatching, energy storage, microgrids, Volt/Var Optimization, and load shedding
Collaborate with system operations control centers, IT, and engineering resources on DMS functionality and enhancements
Support specification and configuration of DMS advanced applications such as FLISR, LVM, AFR, and Load and Generation Scheduling
Develop project approval documentation covering need statements, scope, technical solutions, alternatives, risks, budget, and schedule
Investigate new industry technologies and assess their benefits for system operations control rooms
Develop tools and methods to process and organize data from multiple sources for engineering models and databases
Support multidisciplinary grid modernization teams across three states
Communicate grid modernization initiatives externally and participate in industry forums
Respond to emergency situations and perform emergency restoration assignments outside normal responsibilities, hours, or location when required

Requirements

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
Three (3) years of experience
Experience in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry preferred

Basic understanding of communication systems and protocols, such as DNP, used in SCADA control systems
Strong analytical skills, including experience using qualitative tools in strategic development
Demonstrated business development aptitude with strong presentation skills
Strong leadership skills to work effectively throughout the organization
Competency and proficiency in oral and written communications
Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and remain self-directed
Ability to work up to five days in the office if needed
Ability to work weekends and off hours as required
Occasional travel throughout the service territory
