Job summary

The Village of Heyworth, Illinois, is seeking a qualified civil engineer to lead the municipal engineering operations and supervise the Building and Zoning Department. The position may also be appointed as Director of Public Works, with an additional administrative leadership role and a separate salary range.

As Engineer, you will oversee public works projects, budgeting, and code compliance, while as Director you will provide administrative leadership across Public Works, oversee budgets, and

Qualifications

• At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience as a civil engineer.
• Experience in utilities, public works, land development regulations and capital projects management.
• Municipal professional engineering experience with project management and personnel supervision.
• Professional Engineer licensure preferred; Land Surveyor licensure preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate public works construction projects, including design, bid preparation and advertising, construction oversight, and document review.
• Review plat submittals and administer subdivision requirements.
• Assist with data and implementation of GIS and with zoning maps.
• Maintain urgency in planning, executing tasks, and responding to public and organizational requests.
• Manage personnel matters of the Building and Zoning Department, including hiring, attendance and discipline; oversee department budget.
• For Director of Public Works, provide administrative leadership across Public Works and coordinate budgets and departmental planning.
