Element Fleet Management is hiring a Software Engineer, API Gateway to design, implement, and support API gateway platforms and security controls. You will partner with cybersecurity, DevOps, and architecture teams to enable secure, scalable API services for internal and customer-facing applications.
You will monitor performance, contribute to platform reliability, and drive automation using IaC and CI/CD pipelines, while providing technical guidance across teams and documenting standards.

We’re looking for a customer and developer-focused engineer to join our team as Software Engineer, API Gateway. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, securing, and maintaining the organization's API gateway platform and API management ecosystem. This role enables secure, scalable, and high-performing API services that support internal applications, customer-facing products, and third-party integrations. Working closely with application development, cloud infrastructure, security, DevOps, and architecture teams, the role contributes to API governance, operational reliability, developer enablement, and continuous platform improvement.
Design, implement, and support API gateway platforms. Configure and maintain enterprise API gateway capabilities, including routing, traffic management, load balancing, caching, policy enforcement, API publishing, versioning, and lifecycle management to provide secure, scalable, and reliable API services.
Implement API security and governance controls. Configure and maintain authentication, authorization, API key management, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), JWT, mutual TLS (mTLS), rate limiting, throttling, and related API security controls.
Partner with Cybersecurity teams to support vulnerability remediation, compliance initiatives, and alignment with organizational security standards.
Support platform operations and performance. Monitor API gateway availability, latency, throughput, utilization, and platform health. Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, participate in incident response, and optimize gateway scalability, resilience, and operational performance.
Develop automation and DevOps capabilities. Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for API gateway deployments using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools. Develop CI/CD pipelines to automate deployment, configuration management, monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational tasks to improve consistency and reduce manual effort.
Collaborate on architecture and provide technical guidance. Partner with Solution Architects, application development teams, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and Security teams to design API integration solutions aligned with enterprise standards. Review API designs, contribute to architecture discussions, mentor junior engineers, and support platform modernization initiatives.
Maintain documentation and drive continuous improvement. Develop and maintain technical documentation, API standards, operational procedures, and implementation guidance. Evaluate emerging API management technologies, recommend improvements, and contribute to better developer experience, operational efficiency, and platform reliability.

The hiring base salary range for this position is $101,900 - $140,140 annually. This range represents the Company's good-faith estimate of the expected base salary at the time of posting. Salary ranges may vary based on the geographic location where the work is performed. The salary range listed in this posting applies only to the location identified. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including the successful candidate's qualifications, knowledge, skills, experience, internal pay equity, and relevant market data.
In addition to base salary, eligible employees may participate in annual incentive programs, including bonuses, commissions, or other incentive compensation, as applicable to the role.
