Job summary

The YMCA of Catawba Valley is seeking a Group Leader to supervise children in before/after school and summer programs, maintaining a safe, engaging environment and supporting the program coordinator.

You will plan and implement activities, supervise behavior, foster inclusivity, and collaborate with staff to ensure smooth program delivery while upholding YMCA policies and safeguarding youth.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; EDU 119 preferred, BSAC
• Prior experience working with children in a group setting is preferred
• Understanding of child development principles and best practices for working with children
• Knowledge of program safety and behavior management techniques
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to plan and implement engaging and educational activities
• Proficiency in basic computer skills (e.g., email, word processing)

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute a variety of educational, recreational, and enrichment activities for children in the program
• Adapt activities to accommodate different age groups and individual needs
• Supervise children at all times to ensure their safety and well-being
• Implement and enforce program rules and procedures to maintain a positive and safe environment
• Address any behavioral issues or conflicts promptly and effectively
• Build positive relationships with children and create a supportive, inclusive atmosphere
• Communicate regularly with the program coordinator regarding children's participation and progress
• Collaborate with other staff members to ensure cohesive program delivery
• Maintain attendance and incident records and assist in reporting as needed
• Assist in setup and cleanup of program materials and spaces
• Participate in required training and monthly staff meetings
• Support and mentor new or less experienced staff members
