Job summary

Ryan Specialty in Houston is seeking an Energy Underwriter to manage a portfolio and drive energy accounts, with a focus on upstream Oil & Gas risks. You will evaluate risk exposures, review submissions, and help determine coverage terms and pricing under delegated authority.

Working with brokers and teams, you will support new and renewal business, monitor accounts, and maintain underwriting documentation in line with standards.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of underwriting experience in commercial or energy lines.
• Experience underwriting upstream Oil & Gas risks preferred.
• Strong analytical and communication skills are required.
• Proficiency with MS Office and underwriting systems is expected.

Responsibilities

• Support underwriting of new and renewal Energy business with a focus on upstream Oil & Gas risks.
• Review submissions, loss runs, engineering reports, and supporting docs to evaluate risk quality.
• Assist in analyzing coverage requests and policy forms under authority.
• Evaluate risk characteristics, loss history, and financial information to determine acceptance or modification.
• Assist in developing pricing, terms, and limits based on analysis and market conditions.
• Partner with senior underwriters to maintain a profitable upstream Energy portfolio and strong client service.
• Collaborate with brokers to gather information and respond to submissions, quotes, and renewals.
• Maintain accurate underwriting documentation in compliance with standards and guidelines.
• Work with claims, risk engineering, actuarial, and operations teams to support informed decisions.
• Participate in broker meetings and training to expand Energy market knowledge.
