Job summary

Redwood Materials is localizing a global battery supply chain that links recovery, reuse, and recycling to keep critical minerals in circulation and drive the energy transition. The Power Systems Engineer, Energy Storage develops and validates power system models, controls, and interconnection solutions for Redwood’s energy storage projects.

The role supports grid-connected and off-grid deployments through PSCAD/PSSE modeling, CHIL testing, and compliance with utility, ISO, and IEEE

Qualifications

3+ years of experience in power system studies, dynamic modeling, or grid integration of energy storage.
MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering with specialization in power systems and control systems.
Strong knowledge of control theory and power electronics.
Proficiency with PSCAD/PSSE and MATLAB/Simulink.
Experience with real-time simulation and CHIL testing is a plus.

Responsibilities

Translate power system requirements into site controller specifications.
Design, develop, and validate plant controller functions for energy storage systems.
Ensure algorithms meet utility, ISO, and IEEE requirements.
Build in-house PSCAD/PSSE modeling capabilities.
Set up CHIL testing on RTDS, OPAL-RT, or Typhoon HIL.
Develop automation tools for interconnection studies using Python, C, or C++.
