Mortenson is seeking an experienced Design Phase Executive (Preconstruction Executive) for the Energy Storage group to lead design-phase activities, ensuring alignment with the project execution plan and smooth transition to construction operations.

The role requires strong communication, oversight of budget and schedule, and mentorship across multiple projects, with up to 100% travel. Bachelor’s degree and 15+ years’ experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, Estimating, or equivalent
• Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
• Demonstrate the ability to fulfill development responsibilities for complex projects
• Detail orientation sufficient to organize and handle multiple project tasks
• Risk management skills
• Microsoft Office, project, and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level
• Positive professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
• Interpret and communicate Mortenson policies effectively
• Ability to resolve cross-cultural conflict in a culturally appropriate manner
• Previous experience leading and providing oversight to integrated project teams
• Previous experience in design build construction work and conceptual estimating
• Minimum of 15 years relevant experience
• Ability to travel up to 100%

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary contact for owners, architects, engineers, and trade partners during design phase
• Oversee project budget, scope, and associated communications
• Manage overall project schedule through people management and achievement tracking
• Ensure regulatory approvals and permits are obtained
• Align design documents with project execution plan
• Resolve technical design and specification concernsReview project margin plans and develop financial strategies
• Establish and monitor project success factors for all stakeholders
• Create an integrated team experience through role clarity and communication
