Job summary

Xcel Energy in Denver is offering a summer intern position focused on project management within Energy Supply. You will work under experienced supervisors, coordinate resources for construction activities, and help develop technical expertise for generation facilities.

This paid internship provides exposure to coal, simple cycle, combined cycle, hydroelectric, and wind sites, with a hybrid in-person/work policy.

Qualifications

• Current student, junior or higher (as of Fall 2027).
• Enrolled in an ABET-accredited college or university pursuing a BS in Mechanical, Civil, Environmental, or Electrical Engineering.
• Occasional day-trips to power plants within Colorado.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Responsibilities

• Support management of existing capital projects.
• Develop relationships with plant personnel.
• Promote safety first for onsite activities related to capital projects.
• Red‑line drawings for systems worked on through capital projects.
• Develop notifications, work orders, and purchase requisitions in SAP.
• Develop schedules for assigned projects.
• Lead project update meetings with mentorship and supervision.
