Job summary

Xcel Energy Inc. is offering an internship focused on project management within Energy Supply. You will be mentored by experienced supervisors, coordinate resources for construction activities, and gain experience across coal, simple cycle, combined cycle, hydroelectric, and wind facilities.

This role emphasizes development of technical project management skills and exposure to site operations. The position begins May 24, 2027, with potential extension based on performance and business needs.

Qualifications

• Current student, Junior or higher (as of Fall 2027).
• Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university pursuing a BS in Mechanical, Civil, Environmental, or Electrical Engineering.
• Occassional day-trips to power plants within Colorado.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) / part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commute to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Responsibilities

• Support management of existing capital projects.
• Develop relationships with plant personnel.
• Promote safety first for onsite activities related to capital projects.
• Red-line drawings for systems worked on through capital projects.
• Develop notifications, work orders, and purchase requisitions in SAP.
• Develop schedules for assigned projects.
• Lead project update meetings with mentorship and supervision.
