Job summary

The City of Commerce City seeks an Energy Efficiency Specialist to drive policy development and coordinate building energy programs across city departments. You will track energy usage in city facilities, support electrification efforts, and advance building decarbonization initiatives aligned with climate action goals.

You will lead stakeholder engagement, manage grants, and collaborate to implement energy code updates, training, and outreach for residents, businesses, and contractors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Energy Policy, Environmental Policy, Urban Planning, Public Policy, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
• 2–5 years of progressively responsible experience in sustainability, energy policy, planning, code implementation, or building performance programs.
• ICC Energy Inspector and Plans Examiner certification or LEED GA certification; if not certified, must be obtained within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Lead the City’s efforts to adopt the State of Colorado’s energy code requirements for local governments.
• Support development and implementation of energy and emissions code updates aligned with the decarbonization roadmap and state building energy code.
• Collaborate with E3 and Community Development to review permits and planning projects under current energy codes.
• Organize training and certification opportunities for City staff, local contractors, homeowners, inspectors, designers, and the construction community.
• Coordinate communication, education, and outreach to residents and businesses about energy efficiency, building decarbonization, permitting, and code updates.
• Lead peer-to-peer and elected official engagement related to energy and emissions code updates; prepare briefings and guidance for decision-making.
