Job summary

Commerce City is hiring an Energy Efficiency Specialist to shape energy policies for the city and drive sustainability across buildings. Under the Sustainability Manager, you will track energy use and craft strategies to boost efficiency, leading citywide guidelines and a decarbonization roadmap for commercial and residential properties.

You will blend policy development with technical coordination, collaborating with E3 and Community Development, and host community engagement events to advance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Energy Policy, Environmental Policy, Natural Resource Management, Urban Planning, Public Policy, Environmental Studies, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Two to five years of experience in sustainability, energy policy, planning, code implementation, or building performance programs.
  • To have or be able to obtain ICC Energy Inspector and Plans Examiner certification.
  • LEED GA certification or equivalent; if not certified, certification must be obtained within six months of hire.
  • Combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential duties of the position may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of citywide building energy guidelines and a comprehensive decarbonization roadmap for both commercial and residential properties.
  • Coordinate policy development and interdepartmental collaboration with E3 and Community Development.

Job description

This position is grant funded through the Denver Regional Council of Government (DRCOG) Building Policy Collaborative program. The duration of this appointment is guaranteed until fall 2029.

Hiring salary is dependent upon experience.

The hiring range is $83,592.60 - 92,880.67 / annually.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Energy Policy, Environmental Policy, Natural Resource Management, Urban Planning, Public Policy, Environmental Studies, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Two to five years of progressively responsible experience in sustainability, energy policy, planning, code implementation, or building performance programs.
  • To have or be able to obtain ICC Energy Inspector and Plans Examiner certification.
  • LEED GA certification or (equivalent LEED certification). If not currently certified, certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
  • The City will provide support and resources to assist the selected candidate in obtaining the required certification.
  • A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential duties of the position may be considered.
