Job summary

BGE, Inc. is seeking a Junior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to support energy services projects, delivering instrumentation, control narratives, PLC and DCS systems, SCADA and telemetry solutions under the guidance of senior staff.

This entry-level role offers mentorship, hands-on design tasks, and opportunities to contribute to safe, reliable, and cost-effective energy infrastructure while growing technical skills within a national civil engineering firm.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Control Systems Engineering from an accredited university.
• FE exam eligibility by graduation.
• 0–2 years of instrumentation and controls experience; internships acceptable.
• Coursework in process measurement and control loops, PID control.
• Exposure to PLC/DCS/SCADA/HMI and industrial networks through coursework.

Responsibilities

• Assist with instrumentation and controls design and deliverables for energy projects.
• Prepare instrument index, datasheets, loop diagrams, P&ID markups, wiring and panel layouts.
• Support sizing calculations for flow, valve, level, pressure and temperature.
• Learn and apply control system architectures and communication protocols (HART, Modbus, Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus, Ethernet/IP, OPC).
• Draft technical reports, specifications, cost estimates, and construction documents.
• QA/QC support, respond to RFIs, review vendor submittals.
• Assist FAT, loop checks, commissioning, and punch list tracking.
• Collaborate with project teams and vendors, take notes in meetings.
• Build knowledge through mentorship and hands-on work.
• Support business development with background data for proposals.
