Job summary

Proto-Town in Lockhart, Texas is seeking a Product Design Engineer to shape how a product looks and feels, and then build the prototype that proves it works. You own everything from rough idea through a working unit, with real input on what we build, not just how we build it.

You will develop the UX and physical design, translate concepts into functional prototypes, and source parts and tools to bring a product to life.

Qualifications

• 3+ years designing physical consumer products that shipped or equivalent portfolio.
• Strong CAD skills in SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or Fusion 360.
• Hands-on prototyping: lathe, mill, 3D printer, soldering iron.
• Electrical self-sufficiency: spec parts, wire a dev board, lay out a PCB, debug hardware.

Responsibilities

• Develop the user experience and physical design of the product: form, proportion, ergonomics, materials, and finish.
• Take concepts to functional prototypes: CAD, 3D printing, PCB design, machining, fixturing, hand fabrication, and assembly.
• Source and integrate parts and tools.
