Job summary

The City of Garland seeks an Encampment Response Coordinator to oversee the city’s response to homeless encampments, coordinate with the Garland Police Department, and track cleanup costs and data. You will educate the public, supervise cleanup crews, and help improve programs and practices within the Environmental Compliance Department.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Environmental Science, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Human Services, or related field.
• Minimum two years of progressively responsible work experience in field operations, code enforcement, environmental compliance, public works, project coordination or related fields.
• Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate City's response to encampments from initial complaint to cleanup.
• Plan and schedule encampment removals in coordination with City departments and police.
• Direct cleanup crews and ensure safety and compliance with standards.
• Communicate with property owners about violations and deadlines.
• Document compliance efforts, costs, and site visits.
• Maintain records and prepare reports for the Director as requested.
• Answer inquiries by phone, email, or in person related to encampments.
• Present to community groups and property owners about encampment impacts and prevention.
• Attend council meetings and outreach events to provide updates.
