Job summary

VCU Health is seeking an Emergency Medical Technician to provide direct patient care in a high-acuity inpatient unit. The role supports RN leadership and follows unit plans to ensure safety and comfort for diverse surgical and trauma patients.

The position emphasizes teamwork, adherence to policies, and ongoing in-service training to maintain clinical excellence and professional growth.

Qualifications

• Required Education: High School Degree or equivalent.
• Preferred Education: Certified Nursing Assistant.
• Licensure/Certification Required: AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
• Minimum Qualifications: Certification/Completion Of One Of The Following: CNA, MA, EMT, Military Corpsman/Medic, Nursing Aide Training Program.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and direct care to patients in their assigned unit making age-appropriate adjustments as needed.
• Monitor patients’ conditions and provide updates to the health care team.
• Provide direct and indirect care to patients with and without medical/surgical complications.
• Ensure assigned clinical location is maintained as a safe, clean, stocked environment.
• Maintain supplies, educational material, equipment, sterilization of supplies and environment.
