Job summary

Community Health Systems seeks an EMT I to deliver basic emergency medical care and transportation under supervision within the EMS department in Tucson, AZ. The role focuses on safety, documentation, and seamless care handoffs to hospital teams.

Responsibilities include patient assessment, CPR and first aid, vehicle operation, and maintaining readiness of equipment and supplies while adhering to policies and infection control guidelines.

Qualifications

• Technical School completion of a state-approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training program required
• Technical School EMT Advanced course preferred
• Experience working in a hospital-based emergency department, ambulance service, or critical care transport unit preferred

Responsibilities

• Provides basic emergency medical care in accordance with state scope of practice and department policies and procedures.
• Assists with patient assessment, vital sign monitoring, and delivery of care under supervision of a Paramedic or clinical leader.
• Administers first aid treatments including CPR, bandaging wounds, controlling bleeding, immobilizing fractures, and assisting breathing.
• Operates emergency vehicles safely and in compliance with hospital policy and local traffic laws.
• Performs vehicle and equipment checks at shift start to ensure readiness and compliance.
• Maintains and restocks supplies and equipment needed for patient care.
• Demonstrates proper PPE use and follows infection control procedures.
• Completes accurate documentation in the EMR per regulatory guidelines and policy.
• Escalates patient care or operational concerns through the proper chain of command.
• Collaborates with paramedics, nurses, and physicians to ensure continuity of care on transfer to facilities.
