Job summary

Harnett County, NC seeks a Training Captain to plan, coordinate, deliver, and evaluate EMS education programs for county personnel. You will ensure all courses meet national, state, and local standards and manage training documentation for regulatory compliance.

Under supervision of the Assistant Chief of Training, you will lead instructional efforts, maintain educational records, and coordinate education across instructors.

Qualifications

• Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
• 2.
• Current North Carolina Paramedic credential issued by the NC OEMS.
• 3.
• Minimum of three (3) years of active Paramedic experience, including EMS education/instruction; five (5) years preferred.
• 4.
• Current NC OEMS Level I EMS Instructor credential at the Paramedic level preferred; Level II highly desirable; must obtain within 12 months if not possessed.
• 5.
• Current American Heart Association BLS Instructor certification or ability to obtain within 12 months; other instructor certifications preferred.
• 6.
• Must have or obtain NIMS/ICS 100, 200, 700, 800; complete ICS 300/400 within 12 months of hire.
• 7.
• Must meet all other departmental, medical, credentialing and competency requirements for the Paramedic position.

Responsibilities

• Develops and delivers training, maintains educational records, evaluates performance, and ensures compliance with EMS standards.
• Instructs EMS training programs at basic and advanced levels and maintains related records.
• Serves as primary instructor for the EMS Training Academy and coordinates education between leadership and instructors.
• Maintains training materials and equipment for educational use.
• Prepares training content and conducts sessions on topics including medical equipment, patient care documentation, and procedures.
• Performs trainings and evaluations using high/low-fidelity simulators and maintains training records.

Education

North Carolina OEMS Level I EMS Instructor credential (Paramedic)

American Heart Association BLS Instructor certification

IC S300/400 within twelve months
