Job summary

San Juan Island EMS seeks a Training Officer with leadership depth to organize, plan, and direct the Agency’s EMS training program (OTEP) and to ensure EMTs and Paramedics meet ongoing training requirements. The role also serves as Volunteer Coordinator, directing recruitment, onboarding, and retention, while coordinating with regional partners for joint exercises.

Qualifications

• Must live or be willing to relocate to San Juan Island.
• Minimum of three years in a management position.
• Experience recruiting, training, coordinating, or supervising volunteers.
• Experience with budgeting, fiscal management, and running a business.
• Possess WA State Paramedic license with five years of ALS 911 transport experience.
• Possess a Washington State Driver License in good standing.
• Pass a drug screen, background check, medical exam, and physical ability test.
• Demonstrate knowledge of EMS principles and local protocols.
• Ability to work with volunteers and staff across agencies.

Responsibilities

• Organize, plan, and direct the EMS training program (OTEP) and oversee EMT/paramedic training requirements.
• Direct and oversee the agency’s training and education programs and instructors.
• Oversee the Volunteer Program, including recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and retention.
• Provide leadership depth in the agency and act in the Chief Administrator’s absence.
• Coordinate interagency training exercises and regional partnerships.
