Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking an EMS Instructor in Rockford, IL to lead curriculum development and teach EMT, AEMT, Paramedic and related AHA courses. The role emphasizes adult learning, evaluation of learner progress, and meticulous record-keeping.

Strong communication and mentorship skills are essential for daytime and on-site teaching at multiple sites. The instructor will deliver varied formats—campus, mobile simulation labs, and on-site at students' workplaces—traveling about 20% of the time.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a university or community college with a degree/certificate in an Emergency Care discipline.
• RN/BSN preferred or enrolled in BSN program.
• Licensed EMS provider and certified AHA instructor.
• Ability to travel off-site for educational presentations up to 20%.

Responsibilities

• Lead EMT/AEMT/Paramedic and AHA course development under state/national guidelines.
• Deliver instruction in cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains.
• Use adult-learning principles and provide timely feedback to learners.
• Mentor and supervise junior instructors and coordinate class records.
• Instruct at least one AHA class (BLS, ACLS or PALS).

OVERVIEWThe EMS Instructor, under the direct supervision of the EMS Unit Supervisor/EMS Coordinator provides education and training to all disciplines of emergency care providers. Takes a leadership role in course development through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of classroom, laboratory, clinical and on-line instruction.Schedule: PRN/Flexible ScheduleShift: Day ShiftLocation: Mercyhealth Prehospital and Emergency Services Center - Rockford, ILPay Range: $24.76/hr - $39.62/hrESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESDemonstrates attributes of a professional educator: Self-motivated, effective communicator, effective time manager, team player, organized, knowledgeable, prepared, confident, respectful, student advocate.Responsible for EMT, AEMT ,Paramedic and/or AHA Course development using the guidelines and curriculum outlined by state ( Wisconsin Department of Family Services and HFS 110) and/or the appropriate national agencies (CoAEMSP, FEMA, American Heart Association, etc.).Demonstrates the ability to provide quality instruction in all learning domains ( Cognitive, Psychomotor and Affective)Applies the principles of Adult Learning to the classroomDemonstrates the ability to set clear and obtainable goals and objective for course participants and then monitor and evaluate student progress according to state, overseeing agency and/or department criteriaEngages the learner and provides well timed and effective feedbackProvides mentorship and/or supervision to the novice instructorInstructs in the at least one of the American Heart Association Classes (BLS, ACLS, PALS).Document, collect, maintain and submit accurate class recordsTeach at varied time and places using varied formats based on student demand: Day or evening, main campus, mobile Sim lab or on site of students' employment.Demonstrates exceptional customer service and interacts effectively with students, customers and Mercy Partners of all disciplines.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEGraduation from a University or Community College with a degree or certificate in an Emergency Care discipline (i.e.: EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, RN, PA, DO, MD, Law Enforcement)If RN, BSN preferred or enrolled in BSN program.Two years of experience providing Emergency Care in ones State of Wisconsin Licensed level.CERTIFICATION/LICENSURERequired certification applicable to training assigned (i.e. State of Wisconsin or Illinois Licensed Emergency Care Provider, or other applicable certification, such as EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, RN, PA, DO or MD)State of Wisconsin or Illinois Certified EMS Instructor II or working toward completion preferredBasic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required within three (3) monthsCertified American Heart Association Instructor in at least one level (BLS, ACLS, PALS) within 1 yearOTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIESLanguage SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
