Mercyhealth is seeking an EMS Instructor for its Prehospital and Emergency Services Center in Rockford, IL. This PRN/day-shift role focuses on developing EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic curricula and delivering accredited education across classroom, lab, clinical, and online formats.

The instructor will apply adult learning principles, mentor junior instructors, and ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance with state and national guidelines (Wisconsin/Illinois).

Qualifications

• Degree or certificate in an Emergency Care discipline (EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, RN, PA, DO, MD).
• Two years of Emergency Care experience in Wisconsin or state of licensure.
• State of Wisconsin or Illinois EMS Instructor certification or working toward.
• BLS certification required within three months; AHA Instructor in at least one level within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Lead course development through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of classroom, lab, clinical and online instruction.
• Instruct in AHA courses (BLS, ACLS, PALS) and document class records accurately.
• Deliver instruction using varied formats (day/evening, on campus, mobile labs, at students' sites).
• Mentor and supervise junior instructors; provide timely feedback to learners.

## EMS Instructor - PoolApply: Mercyhealth Physician Clinic-Rockton - Rockford, IL: PRN: Posted Today: 2026-01182**OVERVIEW**The EMS Instructor, under the direct supervision of the EMS Unit Supervisor/EMS Coordinator provides education and training to all disciplines of emergency care providers. Takes a leadership role in course development through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of classroom, laboratory, clinical and on-line instruction.**Schedule**: PRN/Flexible Schedule**Shift**: Day Shift**Location**: Mercyhealth Prehospital and Emergency Services Center - Rockford, IL**Pay Range**: $24.76/hr - $39.62/hr**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*** Demonstrates attributes of a professional educator: Self-motivated, effective communicator, effective time manager, team player, organized, knowledgeable, prepared, confident, respectful, student advocate.* Responsible for EMT, AEMT ,Paramedic and/or AHA Course development using the guidelines and curriculum outlined by state ( Wisconsin Department of Family Services and HFS 110) and/or the appropriate national agencies (CoAEMSP, FEMA, American Heart Association, etc.).* Demonstrates the ability to provide quality instruction in all learning domains ( Cognitive, Psychomotor and Affective)* Applies the principles of Adult Learning to the classroom* Demonstrates the ability to set clear and obtainable goals and objective for course participants and then monitor and evaluate student progress according to state, overseeing agency and/or department criteria* Engages the learner and provides well timed and effective feedback* Provides mentorship and/or supervision to the novice instructor* Instructs in the at least one of the American Heart Association Classes (BLS, ACLS, PALS).* Document, collect, maintain and submit accurate class records* Teach at varied time and places using varied formats based on student demand: Day or evening, main campus, mobile Sim lab or on site of students' employment.* Demonstrates exceptional customer service and interacts effectively with students, customers and Mercy Partners of all disciplines.**EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE**Graduation from a University or Community College with a degree or certificate in an Emergency Care discipline (i.e.: EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, RN, PA, DO, MD, Law Enforcement) If RN, BSN preferred or enrolled in BSN program. Two years of experience providing Emergency Care in ones State of Wisconsin Licensed level.**CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE**Required certification applicable to training assigned (i.e. State of Wisconsin or Illinois Licensed Emergency Care Provider, or other applicable certification, such as EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, RN, PA, DO or MD) State of Wisconsin or Illinois Certified EMS Instructor II or working toward completion preferredBasic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required within three (3) months Certified American Heart Association Instructor in at least one level (BLS, ACLS, PALS) within 1 year **OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES** **Language Skills** Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
