Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking an EMS Instructor to educate and train emergency care providers at the Mercyhealth Prehospital and Emergency Services Center in Rockford, IL. The role leads curriculum development and delivers classroom, lab, clinical and online instruction under supervision.

This PRN/day-shift position requires BLS and at least one AHA instructor certification within 1 year, plus 2 years of emergency care experience in Wisconsin- or Illinois-licensed settings and travel up to 20% for

Qualifications

• Graduation from a University or Community College with a degree or certificate in an Emergency Care discipline (i.e.: EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, RN, PA, DO, MD)
• If RN, BSN preferred or enrolled in BSN program.
• Two years of experience providing Emergency Care in one's State of Wisconsin Licensed level.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates the ability to provide quality instruction in all learning domains (Cognitive, Psychomotor and Affective)
• Applies the principles of Adult Learning to the classroom
• Instructs in at least one of the American Heart Association Classes (BLS, ACLS, PALS)
• Document, collect, maintain and submit accurate class records
• Teach at varied time and places using varied formats based on student demand: Day or evening, main campus, mobile Sim lab or on site of students' employment.

OVERVIEW

The EMS Instructor, under the direct supervision of the EMS Unit Supervisor/EMS Coordinator provides education and training to all disciplines of emergency care providers. Takes a leadership role in course development through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of classroom, laboratory, clinical and on-line instruction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Demonstrates attributes of a professional educator: Self-motivated, effective communicator, effective time manager, team player, organized, knowledgeable, prepared, confident, respectful, student advocate.
• Responsible for EMT, AEMT ,Paramedic and/or AHA Course development using the guidelines and curriculum outlined by state ( Wisconsin Department of Family Services and HFS 110) and/or the appropriate national agencies (CoAEMSP, FEMA, American Heart Association, etc.).
• Demonstrates the ability to provide quality instruction in all learning domains ( Cognitive, Psychomotor and Affective)
• Applies the principles of Adult Learning to the classroom
• Demonstrates the ability to set clear and obtainable goals and objective for course participants and then monitor and evaluate student progress according to state, overseeing agency and/or department criteria
• Engages the learner and provides well timed and effective feedback
• Provides mentorship and/or supervision to the novice instructor
• Instructs in the at least one of the American Heart Association Classes (BLS, ACLS, PALS).
• Document, collect, maintain and submit accurate class records
• Teach at varied time and places using varied formats based on student demand: Day or evening, main campus, mobile Sim lab or on site of students' employment.
• Demonstrates exceptional customer service and interacts effectively with students, customers and Mercy Partners of all disciplines.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Graduation from a University or Community College with a degree or certificate in an Emergency Care discipline (i.e.: EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, RN, PA, DO, MD, Law Enforcement)

If RN, BSN preferred or enrolled in BSN program.

Two years of experience providing Emergency Care in ones State of Wisconsin Licensed level.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Required certification applicable to training assigned (i.e. State of Wisconsin or Illinois Licensed Emergency Care Provider, or other applicable certification, such as EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, RN, PA, DO or MD). State of Wisconsin or Illinois Certified EMS Instructor II or working toward completion preferred.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required within three (3) months.

Certified American Heart Association Instructor in at least one level (BLS, ACLS, PALS) within 1 year.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, customers or employees.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software, including development of Power Points for the classroom

Other Qualifications

Must be willing to travel off site for educational presentations 20% of the time.

LEVEL OF SUPERVISION

This job may require and EMS Instructor 2 to mentor/supervise an EMS Instructor 1This job may require an AHA Instructor to mentor/supervise the AHA Instructor candidate.

PAY RANGE

$24.76 - $39.62
