Job summary

Raaems is seeking a System Status Controller (SSC) to monitor EMS communications in real time, triage calls, and coordinate unit deployment. You will work under IAED standards, with opportunities to support training for new staff and contribute to system readiness.

The role requires multitasking, attention to detail, and adherence to protocols. A valid EMT in Virginia with EMD and CPR certifications is preferred for this on‑site position and may involve shift work in a fast‑paced environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Certified EMT in the Commonwealth of Virginia (or higher).
• EMD certification (or obtain within 6 months).
• CPR certification required.
• Strong verbal communication and multitasking skills.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
• Basic computer and typing proficiency.
• Valid VA Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Answer emergency and non-emergency calls for service and determine appropriate response level.
• Receive and triage a variety of call types, including medical emergencies, interfacility transfers, and mutual aid requests.
• Apply MPDS protocols to assign priority codes and pre-arrival instructions based on IAED standards.
• Accurately enter and update data in the CAD system.
• Maintain caller contact to ensure scene safety and information updates.
• Utilize CAD, radio consoles, and voice recording systems to manage and document communications.
• Monitor and adjust ambulance deployment using System Status Management principles.
• Assign and track emergency units based on availability, location, and acuity.
• Ensure all unit status changes are updated promptly in CAD.
• Coordinate unit movements to maintain system readiness and coverage.
• Exercise sound judgment in deployment decisions within agency guidelines.
• Monitor system efficiency and notify of inefficiencies or delays.
• Initiate supervisory escalation as needed.
• Maintain open communication with Field Operations to support real-time decisions.
• Communicate with law enforcement, hospitals, and partners to relay critical information.
• Relay resource requests to supervisors and activate additional resources.
• Maintain situational awareness of threats and incidents; document deviations.
• Notify supervisors of critical incidents or service disruptions.
• Participate in high-incident response and contingency plans.
• Assist with hospital status tracking and ETA notifications.
