The City of Austin - Austin Travis County EMS is seeking motivated cadets for the Communications Medics program in Austin, TX. You will start with a paid 8‑week training academy and progress to Medic – Communications after graduation, with a 12‑month probationary path to civil service eligibility.

Responsibilities include answering 9‑1‑1 calls, triage, and providing pre‑arrival instructions while joining a state‑of‑the‑art communications center team.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older and eligible to work in the U.S.
• Must read, write, and speak English.
• EMT-B or higher certification with reciprocity eligibility.
• Valid Texas Class C Driver's License; eligible by start date.
• Must complete credentialing within nine months of hire.
• NAED EMD and CPR certifications required within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Participates in the EMS Academy training program, including lectures, labs, and simulations.
• Triage calls, provide pre-arrival instructions, and determine caller location.
• Learn to operate public safety communications equipment and EMS dispatch systems.
• Document patient care and prepare reports as part of the credentialing process.
