Job summary

City of Austin - Austin-Travis County EMS seeks a Communications Medic Cadet to join the state-of-the-art Communications Center in Central East Austin. Cadets attend an 8-week paid training academy, then complete field training before becoming a Medic – Communications.

The role is essential and requires working during holidays and severe weather. Ideal candidates are 18+, fluent in English, with EMT-B or higher certification, a valid Texas driver's license, and the ability to pass credentialing

Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age or older and eligible to work in the U.S.
Must read, write, and speak English
Must possess a high school diploma or GED and EMT-B or higher
Must have a valid Texas Class C Driver's License (or ability to obtain)
NAED EMD certification within 90 days of hire and AHA CPR within 90 days

Responsibilities

Participates in EMS Academy training to qualify for graduation and promotion to EMS Medic - Communications.
Processes calls by triaging, providing pre-arrival instructions, and locating callers.
Operates communication and computer-based equipment used for 911 calls and dispatching EMS units.
Documents patient care and prepares reports as part of the role.
Maintains knowledge of EMS services and ability to communicate professionally under stress.
