Job summary

The City of Austin’s Emergency Medical Services Department is seeking qualified individuals to join our elite Medic team. Cadets attend a paid 8-week training academy and must complete a field training period before serving as a Medic in our system.

Medics advance through the ranks with ongoing continuing education, a strong focus on patient care, and opportunities to promote as part of one of the nation’s leading EMS systems.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must read, write, and speak English.
• Must be eligible for employment in the U.S.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Must have a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 2 years.
• Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in a position with public-facing customer service.
• Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) or higher.

Responsibilities

• Participates in the Austin – Travis County Emergency Medical Services Academy training program to qualify for graduation and promotion to EMS Medic - Field.
• Participates in mandatory physical training and physical conditioning activities.
• Develops knowledge of patient advocacy and interagency teamwork.
• Develops skills for assessing patients and knowledge of procedures defined by the Medical Director.
• Develops knowledge and skills in documenting patient care and reports.
• Participates in learning to operate an emergency vehicle and transporting patients to medical facilities.
• Maintains a strong safety focus and follows safety standards and practices.
