Job summary

Parrish Healthcare is seeking an EMR Support Specialist in the Health Information Management department. The role ensures EMR integrity, acts as a super-user for HIM applications, and coordinates data reporting across stakeholders.

You will audit scanned documents, manage forms, and support HIM workflows, coding, and CDI initiatives. A Bachelor’s degree and 2–3 years of HIM/IT experience are preferred, with RHIT/RHIA credentials advantageous.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of healthcare data analysis, decision support, report writing, or related HIM/IT experience.
• At least one year in a hospital HIM department strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs day-to-day tasks to support the HIM department including creating reports, validating data, and presenting information for decision making.
• Designs and identifies tools to determine HIM performance tracking and quality metrics.
• Provides support by compiling requested charts for external review and reporting of quality measures.
• Formats, barcodes, and uploads clinical forms; coordinates the Forms Management program; keeps forms up to date and compliant.
• Performs quality assurance of scanned documents and tracks errors with feedback to HIM leadership.
• Performs routine audits of medical records for proper form usage and inventory.
• Facilitates approvals for forms and order sets via virtual committees.
• Serves as HIM contact for medical record merges and account cleanup.

General Description:

The Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Support Specialist reports to the HIM Operations Manager. The EMR Support Specialist ensures the integrity of the EMR; functions as the super-user for HIM applications as designated; monitors the quality and accuracy of scanned documents; audits medical records for proper form usage; and communicates results to the appropriate parties. The EMR Support Specialist is responsible for compiling, organizing, interpreting and reporting data from multiple sources to various stakeholders; coordinating the forms management program for the system; and supporting various projects related to HIM applications, EMR workflows, coding, and reimbursement. The position shall exemplify the desired Culture of Choice and philosophies of Parrish Healthcare.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Performs with accuracy day-to-day tasks to support the HIM department including but not limited to creating reports, validating data, compiling data for analysis, and presenting information for decision making.
2. Designs, creates, and identifies tools to determine the current state of the Unbilled, HIM performance tracking, quality tracking, and HIM productivity metrics.
3. Provides support to HIM and other departments by compiling requested charts for external review and reporting of quality measures.
4. Formats, barcodes, and uploads all clinical forms into the form's repository. Coordinates the Forms Management program, responsible for keeping all forms up to date, cataloged, and in compliance with The Joint Commission and hospital standards. Manages content of forms repository, which includes troubleshooting of any FormFast related technical issues, and contacting vendor if needed.
5. Performs quality assurance of scanned documents to assess accuracy and tracks errors, providing feedback to the HIM Operations Manager.
6. Performs routine audits of medical records and clinical units for proper form usage and inventory for the system.
7. Facilitates the approval processes for forms and order sets using the appropriate virtual committees.
8. Serves as the HIM contact for medical record merges and account cleanup issues.
9. Supports the adoption and implementation of department applications including but not limited to the EMR, HIM applications, coding and CDI applications, and clinical applications; participates on planning and validating workgroups. Cross-trains and functions as a backup to help other areas of HIM Operations as needed.
10. Performs similar or related duties as assigned.
11. Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as it pertains to the work area.

Requirements:

Formal Education:

• Bachelors degree required. Degree/Major preferred: HIM, Information Technology/Systems, Informatics, or related healthcare technology field.

Work Experience:

• 2-3 years of healthcare data analysis, decision support, report writing, or related HIM/IT experience required. At least one-year experience in a hospital HIM department strongly preferred.

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:

• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or other AHIMA credentials preferred or job-related certificate approved by Human Resources and Health Information Management.
