Job summary

Eugene School District 4J is seeking a part-time Special Education Assistant (0.875 FTE, 7 hours per day) to support students with specialized needs under the supervision of licensed staff. The role emphasizes implementing IEPs, supporting behavioral and educational plans, and coordinating with teachers and specialists.

Responsibilities include assisting with daily instructional activities, mobility and health-related supports, data collection, and ensuring a safe, inclusive learning

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Special Education or closely related field preferred; or 2 years post-secondary study totaling 72 credits/48 semester units.
• Must have Highly Qualified status per Oregon ORS 581-037-0006; documentation must be attached with application.
• Two years of experience working in or directly supporting students in an educational setting.
• Must earn an Oregon behavioral intervention training certificate within 6 months of employment and maintain it.
• Must pass Oregon background check and pre-employment physical capacity exam.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized support to individual students or groups to meet IEP goals.
• Assist with mobility, transfers, and positioning for students; provide feeding and hygiene support as needed.
• Assist with medical or behavioral supports under district policies; administer medications per policy.
• Monitor student progress and collect daily/periodic data for progress tracking and evaluations.
• Collaborate with teachers and specialists to plan and support instructional activities.

Education

Associate degree (preferred) in Special Education or related field

2 years post-secondary study (72 credits or 48 sem. credits)

High school diploma or GED with required assessments
