Job summary

South St. Paul Public Schools is seeking a Long Term Substitute for Early Learning Preschool Assistant at Kaposia Elementary School. The role involves supporting a developmentally appropriate learning environment for young children, with a 7-hour day and two PD days on August 24 and 26, 2026.

Compensation is $17 per hour, with start August 24, 2026, through TBD. The successful candidate will assist in curriculum implementation, prepare classroom materials, support behavior guidance, and maintain

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years' experience with diverse families and young children preferred.
• Knowledge of child development and behavior management.
• Strong parent-child interaction and learning-support skills.
• Positive interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Ability to follow data privacy rules.
• Knowledge of health and safety procedures.
• Ability to follow directions and be flexible.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement curriculum as directed by teacher/Coordinator.
• Maintain a safe, organized classroom with inclusive learning centers.
• Prepare supplies, snacks, equipment, and environment.
• Build rapport with parents, children, and staff.
• Provide positive behavior guidance to children.
• Greet parents and children and gather information to support learning.
• Assist with separation issues to support children and families.
• Support social, interpersonal, motor, and readiness skills development.
• Observe and record child development and behavior as needed.
• Follow health and safety guidelines.
• Work as a team to provide a quality program.
• Maintain confidentiality of students and families.
• Implement program policies and district procedures.
• Respond to emergencies and crises appropriately.
• Attend staff and district activities as needed.
• Remain flexible to take on additional duties.
