Job summary

Brainerd Public Schools is seeking a Long Term Sub Special Education Assistant-DCD to support students from K to 4. The role reports to the principal and runs 8-hour days as a full-time temporary substitute.

The paraprofessional will assist with IEP goals across classrooms, lunchrooms, gym, buses and common spaces while collaborating with teachers and support staff. The position requires a two-year degree or equivalent credentials and Handle with Care training within three months.

Qualifications

• Two-year associate degree or 60 college credits or para-pro certification.
• Experience working with students with physical, cognitive and/or mild behavioral needs.
• Handle with Care Training within three months of hire.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; team member.
• Flexible to program and student needs.
• Assist students in resource or inclusive settings and as a job coach.
• Implement specific therapies and programs per IEP; aid daily living tasks.
• Collect data on student progress as defined in IEP.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
• Ability to work with diverse staff and the public.

Responsibilities

• Carry out duties and responsibilities in a student's IEP.
• Assist students individually and in groups in various settings.
• Provide interventions and accommodations per IEP.
• Collaborate with teachers to deliver instruction.
• Supervise during lunch, recess, field trips, and bus duty.
• Monitor progress and ensure a safe learning environment.
• Maintain communication with building staff and families.
• Follow district policies and report abuse/neglect.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
