Job summary

University of Nebraska–Lincoln is seeking an Academic Pathway Advisor in Grand Island to recruit, advise, and support first‑generation and low‑income students. The role involves building partnerships with schools, families, and community partners and delivering workshops and tutoring to help students progress educationally.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in education or related field, plus experience with curriculum design and postsecondary preparation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in an academic or social setting with low-income students.
  • Experience designing curriculum and/or workshops for students.
  • Ability to develop educational programming related to career exploration, financial literacy, and post-secondary preparation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and meet the University driver eligibility requirements (ability to drive 12‑passenger vans).
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in education, psychology/counseling, or related field.
  • Preferred: TRIO experience.
  • Preferred: experience with middle/high school students.
  • Preferred: managing student records and communicating with families and educators.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, advise, and support students in the program and monitor their success.
  • Build relationships with school counselors, families, and community partners in the Grand Island/Winnebago service area
  • Host interactive workshops, provide one-on-one advising, tutoring, and enrichment programs.
  • Assist in planning and executing the summer program.
