Job summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas is seeking a Direct Support Professional in Chesapeake, VA to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Under supervision, you will provide direct care, teach daily living skills, support safety, and document activities in the electronic health record, collaborating with the Person-Centered Planning Team to help residents live more independently.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or IEP.
• At least 1 year of experience in IDD field.
• Medication administration certification preferred, but may be required after introductory period.
• Must pass trainings and orientation classes; maintain required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and support to residents as identified by the care team.
• Teach and assist with daily living tasks (meal prep, budgeting, household chores).
• Support safe living and follow the Person-Centered Plan.
• Assist with medication administration as needed.
• Document services in the electronic health record daily.
