Job summary

Volunteers of America, Dakotas is seeking a Direct Support Professional for the CHOICES residential program. The role focuses on empowering adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and behavioral or psychiatric challenges to live self-directed lives with personalized support.

You work with individuals to build on strengths, maintain dignity, and promote independence, while upholding the agency’s ethics and values in a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Counseling, Social Work or related Human Services field.
• Experience with individuals with intellectual disabilities, mental health issues or challenging behavior preferred.
• Ability to pass agency driving test and hold a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Read, understand and follow Individual Support Plans (ISP).
• Ensure safety for all people in all environments.
• Maintain safe and healthy living environments for people supported.
• Provide transportation as needed based on availability.
• Assist people supported in accessing and participating in community activities.
• Follow VOA policies and procedures at all times.
• Ensure data is documented daily.
• Maintain a high level of communication with supervisor and support team.
• Attend meetings, including DSP meetings, house meetings and agency trainings.
• Maintain vehicle safety and report maintenance issues.
