Job summary

Mesa Public Schools is seeking a part-time instructional assistant to support special education students under the supervision of certified teachers and specialists. The role includes monitoring, instruction of IEP goals, and assisting with daily living activities and health care tasks.

Responsibilities include delivering classroom tasks, assisting with materials, collecting data on goals, and collaborating on behavior plans while maintaining a safe learning environment.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree or 60 college credit hours required at time of hire or pass the ParaPro Test.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience working with children preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver, under teacher’s direction, classroom work/homework and reinforce objectives, tutoring and guided practice.
• Assist in the development of instructional materials and maintenance of the classroom.
• Assist in the collection of data on academic and behavior goals as instructed.
• Collaborate with certified personnel to implement positive behavior intervention plans for students with challenging behaviors.
• Respond to problem behaviors according to the student’s plan and district policy.
• Transfer and/or lift non-ambulatory students to assist them in daily activities.
• Assist students with personal hygiene to support daily living activities.
• Assist students needing support due to medical conditions to ensure functioning in school.
• Accompany students during transitions across campus.
• Monitor small groups to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
• Maintain classroom and equipment to ensure safety.
• Model professional, safe, respectful behavior.
• Perform general clerical tasks to support the teacher.
• Participate in meetings to share information and develop skills.
• Regular and on-time attendance required.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the work unit.
