Job summary

Omaha Public Schools seeks a Sign Language Interpreter for Washington Elementary in Omaha, NE. The role is full-time and non-exempt, with 185 duty days and 7 hours per day.

The interpreter will provide signing support to deaf and hard-of-hearing students and work with teachers and staff to facilitate classroom communication. Requirements include an Associate degree in Sign Language Interpreting and passing the EIPA, with credentials such as RID, NAD, NIC, or QAST 4.0 highly preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Sign Language Interpreting.
  • Passing EIPA written exam and attaining one or more of the following: EIPA 4.0+, RID, NAD, NIC, QAST 4.0.
  • Advanced knowledge of ASL and other sign systems preferred.
  • Excellent attendance and communication skills.
  • Professionalism and confidentiality in line with OPS Code of Ethics.

Responsibilities

  • Provide interpreting and support services to deaf and hard of hearing students.
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers and staff.
  • Tutor and participate in meetings as part of the educational team.
