Job summary

Burke High School, part of Omaha Public Schools, is seeking a qualified Sign Language Interpreter for the 2026-2027 school year. The role supports deaf and hard of hearing students and collaborates with teachers and staff to facilitate classroom communication.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Sign Language Interpreting or equivalent.
• Passing score on the EIPA written exam and attainment of one or more Nebraska Rule 51 competencies.
• Advanced knowledge of American Sign Language and related sign systems preferred.
• Exemplary attendance and professional conduct are required.

Responsibilities

• Provide interpreting and support services to deaf and hard of hearing students.
• Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and staff.
• Tutor deaf and hard-of-hearing students as needed and when not interpreting.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional relationships with students and staff.
• Adhere to OPS EI/T Code of Ethics and district policies.
