Job Description

The Kings County District Attorney’s Office (KCDA) is seeking an Employment Specialist in the Re-Entry Programs Bureau. This bureau addresses the needs of individuals transitioning from incarceration to the community, primarily through referrals to third-party services. Responsibilities include:

  1. Providing orientation sessions and intake meetings for new clients.
  2. Assisting clients in achieving employment goals by identifying and referring them to appropriate services.
  3. Collaborating with case managers to manage employment goals and barriers.
  4. Developing curricula for employment needs and facilitating workshops.
  5. Building partnerships with staffing agencies, training providers, and employers.
  6. Supporting clients with resume building, interview preparation, and skills development.
  7. Scheduling interviews and managing employment placements.
  8. Teaching clients self-advocacy skills for employment.
  9. Documenting all interactions with clients and employers.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as an Employment Specialist or similar role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, mental health, psychology, sociology, education, business, or related fields with 1-2 years of experience, OR an Associate degree with 2-3 years of experience.
  • Familiarity with the criminal justice population, mental health, substance use, or related fields.
  • Strong communication, time management, and interpersonal skills.
Other Qualifications
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
  • Good judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus three years of community work experience, OR
  • Equivalent education and/or experience.
