The Kings County District Attorney's Office (KCDA) is one of the largest prosecutor's offices in the country, committed to developing innovative prosecutorial strategies to keep Brooklyn safe while ensuring fairness and justice for all.

KCDA has an exciting opportunity for an Employment Specialist in the Re-Entry Programs Bureau, which assists individuals transitioning from incarceration to the community, primarily through referrals to third-party services.

Under supervision, with some independence, the preferred candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing orientation sessions and intake meetings for new clients.
  • Assisting clients in achieving employment goals by identifying and referring them to appropriate services.
  • Collaborating with case managers to manage changes in employment goals and address barriers.
  • Developing curricula to address employment needs and facilitating workshops.
  • Building partnerships with staffing agencies, training, and education providers to support clients' skills.
  • Preparing clients for interviews, resume building, and skills development through advocacy and referrals.
  • Building relationships with employers to facilitate direct hiring of clients.
  • Scheduling interviews and managing employment placements.
  • Teaching clients self-advocacy skills for employment seeking.
  • Documenting all interactions with employers and clients.

Additional requirements include:

  • At least 1 year of employment specialist experience in a similar setting.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with 1-2 years' experience, or an associate degree with 2-3 years' experience.
  • Familiarity with the criminal justice population, mental health, substance use, or related fields.
  • Strong communication, time management, and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
  • Good judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Teamwork and outcome-focused attitude.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma and three years of community work experience, or equivalent education/experience.
