JOB SUMMARY: The Employment Specialist provides case management and employment training services to program participants in the DC Metropolitan Area. Responsibilities include assisting participants to identify and reduce barriers to employment, meeting emergency needs, job development and placement, job coaching, and providing on-the-job supports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement a Work Adjustment curriculum for adults with developmental disabilities and other barriers, focusing on work skills and soft skills like resume writing and interviewing.
  • Create and teach employment-related programs during Job Club, with curriculum amendments possible under supervisor guidance.
  • Provide case management and supportive services with follow-up to address barriers and support goal achievement.
  • Assist with documentation, identification for employment, and travel needs for interviews and training.
  • Develop internship, training, and employment opportunities with employers and community agencies.
  • Work with consumers and partners to develop jobs via online searches, job fairs, and community resources.
  • Maintain communication with staff, referring agencies, families, and support persons to meet vocational and personal goals.
  • Provide on-the-job support and conduct assessments of work adjustment and training.
  • Complete progress reports and meet reporting deadlines.
  • Offer counseling and intervention as needed.
  • Transport participants and provide travel training on public transportation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least two years of work experience related to developmental disabilities, with one year in employment services preferred.

SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook 365, Excel, and web browsing.
  • Valid local driver’s license, clean driving record, and use of personal vehicle for work-related activities.
