Hours are 9am to 5pm. You will interact with city agencies, assist with E-Hire and SCR processes, and input data into NYCAPS to complete personnel actions.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree with two years of clerical/administrative experience, one year in supervisory capacity.
  • An associate degree or 60 credits with three years of clerical/administrative experience, including supervisory experience.
  • A four-year high school diploma with four years of clerical/administrative experience, including supervisory experience.
  • Education/experience equivalent to above, with one year of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Advise candidates on required documentation for pre-appointment criteria and refer to agencies to obtain missing docs.
  • Verify work experience and education documents for authenticity; review documents and advise supervisor.
  • Evaluate candidates for employment by interviewing and assessing qualifications and suitability; initiate investigations as needed.
  • Authorize employment decisions based on agency guidelines by DCAS.
  • Assist candidates with E-Hire applications and SCR registrations.
  • Obtain collateral information by conferring with city agencies and contacting employers.

The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.

Human Resources Solutions (HRS) support the human resources needs of the Department of Social Services, the Human Resources Administration, and the Department of Homeless Services through strategic partnership and collaboration, with the goal of creating an inclusive, motivated, and client centered workforce.

Human Resources Solutions (HRS)/ Recruitment and Onboarding is recruiting for one (1) Principal Administrative Associate III to function as an Employee Processing Representative. The duties and responsibilities will be to:

  • Advise prospective candidates the appropriate documentation required to satisfy pre-appointment interview criteria refers candidate to appropriate agencies (i.e., Board of Education, Vital Records) to secure- missing documentation.
  • Verify work experience and education documents submitted by candidates for authenticity. Reviews processing documents returned to OSR and makes recommendations to the supervisor for further review and clarification.
  • Evaluate candidates' acceptability for employment by conducting in-depth interviews, assessing candidates: suitability based on overall presentation, qualifications, performance, and Initiating Investigations to ensure that candidates satisfy job requirements.
  • Authorize employment by determining candidates. qualifications for hiring based on agency guidelines established by the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS).
  • Assist the candidates with their E-Hire application, State Clearance Registration (SCR) application necessary paper forms.
  • Obtain collateral information on candidates by conferring with other city agencies and Initiating contact with both public and private sector employers.
  • Input data into the New York City Automated Personnel System {NYCAPS) for each personnel action completed and updates/reviews existing information and generates system reports.

PRINCIPAL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSOC - 10124

Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or

2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience described in "1" above; or

3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a state’s department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and four years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience as described in "1" above; or

4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above. However, all candidates must possess the one year of administrative or supervisory experience as described in "1" above. Education above the high school level may be substituted for the general clerical/administrative experience (but not for the one year of administrative or supervisory experience described in "1" above) at a rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for 6 months of experience up to a maximum of 3 year.
