Our client is a fully remote law firm with a collaborative team of approximately 40 professionals. The firm focuses on high-quality employment litigation, providing attorneys with the resources, autonomy, and support necessary to handle meaningful cases without traditional billable-hour pressure.
This opportunity is ideal for an attorney with substantial California employment litigation experience who is confident managing cases independently, enjoys working directly with clients, and values long-term professional growth within a supportive legal team.
No billable-hour targets. No client origination requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently manage California employment litigation cases from filing through resolution, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, wage and hour disputes, and related claims.
- Develop and execute litigation strategies, making substantive case decisions while collaborating with firm leadership when appropriate.
- Draft and review complaints, motions, legal briefs, discovery requests, settlement demands, and other substantive litigation documents.
- Conduct written discovery, including preparing and responding to discovery requests.
- Take and defend depositions and prepare clients and witnesses for litigation proceedings.
- Represent clients in mediations, settlement conferences, court appearances, and negotiations.
- Maintain proactive, professional communication with clients throughout their cases.
- Supervise and coordinate work performed by assigned law clerks.
- Manage litigation deadlines, case progression, and documentation using firm systems.
- Collaborate with attorneys and support staff to deliver excellent legal representation and client service.
Required Qualifications
- Active membership in the California State Bar, in good standing.
- Minimum of 5 years of California employment litigation experience, representing plaintiffs, defendants, or both.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage employment litigation matters and develop effective case strategies.
- Substantial experience drafting legal motions, pleadings, briefs, and other litigation documents.
- Meaningful hands-on experience taking and defending depositions.
- Strong working knowledge of California employment laws, including FEHA, wage and hour regulations, and related statutes.
- Excellent legal research, analytical reasoning, written advocacy, and oral communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with a distributed legal team.
- Availability for scheduled meetings, court proceedings, and other professional obligations during Pacific Time business hours.
- Ability to travel occasionally to California for in-person legal proceedings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience handling class action litigation and Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) matters.
- Experience supervising law clerks, paralegals, or other litigation support professionals.
- Familiarity with legal case management software and remote litigation workflows.
